Easter Reflection #1
Alleluia. Christ is risen!
‘Easters cancelled this year’ Said one of my friends to me. Now I’ve had some of these friends for about 20 years so they me fairly well.
Why?” I asked knowing full well it was going to be some daft comment
“They found the body,” was the reply.
Ho, Ho!!
However that did set me thinking about what the implications of that might well mean. There are some theologians who believe that Jesus did just that and simply died. One of my friends describes Jesus as ‘a good bloke’ or ‘the first socialist’, he is very clear that he does not believe that Jesus rose from the grave.
So what if Easter was cancelled. Well I wouldn’t of written this and be standing here speaking to you. But then you wouldn’t be sitting because there would be no chairs put out or listening to me through the PA that of course wouldn’t have been set up because it wouldn’t have been brought.
We wouldn’t know Jon or Jason or be able to listen and learn from their talks and laugh at their jokes. There would be no tea or coffee afterwards, no Jammy dodgers or chocolate fingers.
There would be no ministries or small groups, no Vine project, no money to give to charities….if indeed charities existed.
There would be no worship, no communion, and no service.
And just take a moment to look around here at your friends, those whom you know and love. Would you know them? – Probably not. But even if you did would care about them in the same way with no example set?
There would no laughter and no tears. No time together. There would be no community and without community there would be no difference in peoples lives….
But of course Easter isn’t cancelled and Christ has overcome death and Christ is Risen today.
