Eucharist Reflection #3

Confession reflection

1 Corinthians 11:27-29

Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body.

Confession is probably one of the most difficult areas of our Christian lives.

We now live in a world of blame and blaming others, indeed a whole industry feeds from the blame, pain, greed and grief of others.

But for us in confession, we can take our responsibility seriously; we can ask God to forgive us as we should forgive others.

And the best thing is that God does forgive us, he wipes the slate clean – it’s gone, forgotten and forgiven.

But confession is not just realization our short comings but a whole process of cleansing, healing and renewal.

So we are going to spend a short time in reflection and confession.

There are 3 shredders around the hall. You can write anything you feel you need to confess on the paper next to you, ask God for His forgiveness and then simply feed it to one of the shredders; this symbolizes how God deals with our sin in confession.

Alternatively if you find that uncomfortable you are welcome to just sit and pray in your seats where you are.

Then Jason will then lead us in Holy Communion.
