Good Friday Narrative #1

Oh God how did I come to be here, the pain of the nails forced through my flesh, tearing and burning…the pain it sears through every part of my body which screams for release…

They say the wages of sin are death and Oh how true that is…and here I am hanging on the cross with two others…

I am a criminal, a sinner…I deserve this but what about him?

Blood is dripping from his head, hands, feet, and back.

He has done nothing wrong, he has healed the sick, even Romans, he even healed a Roman soldier…he fed the poor…

It is hard to breath; my chest is so very heavy…

‘Aren’t you the Christ? Save yourself and us!’

How can this man say this, we are dying and all he can do it mock…

“Don’t you fear God,” I screamed with all my breath “since you are under the same sentence?

“We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.”

I turned and looked at Jesus.

My eyes spoke the words of my heart. It is too late for me…isn’t it?

“Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom”

He raised his battered and bloody face and my eyes caught his “I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise.”
